The USAG development optional program consists of levels 6-10. At these levels, each athlete has her own routine on each of the 4 events but must meet the requirements for her respective level set by USA Gymnastics. These athletes practice 15-20 hours/week, 5 days/week. They travel farther for competitions than our other teams. The athletes in these levels are able to qualify to regionals from their state competition in their respective level. Level 9 athletes have the opportunity to qualify to Eastern Nationals from regionals, and level 10 athletes can qualify to DP Nationals from their regional competition.
The USAG development compulsory program consists of levels 1-5. The athletes competing in these levels learn the foundational skills needed to be successful optional gymnasts. Everyone in these levels competes the same routine constructed by USAG. These athletes work really hard on technique and strength in order to master the skills in the routines at the compulsory level. These levels practice between 2 and 4 days per week.
The USAG Xcel program consists of levels bronze, silver, gold, platinum, and diamond. The xcel program is an alternative to the development program, offering more flexibility with skills, routines, and level of commitment. While there are still requirements set by USAG for each level, there is a much wider range of skill choice to meet those requirements than in the development program. Our xcel teams practice between 2 and 4 days/week. Xcel gold-diamond gymnasts have the opportunity to qualify to regionals from their state meet for their respective level.
